Star Trek M5 Beta 5 Computer Display Panel

Description

This is a recreation of the square panel from the M5 (and Beta-5) computer first featured in the 22nd episode of the second season of the original series of Star Trek. In the episode the computer temporarily takes over control of the enterprise until Captain Kirk talks it into destroying itself.
This recreation has 46 segments in the same placement as the 46 segments in the original panel using the same colors. There are three modes for the M5 which can be controlled using a touch sensor:
o The first mode matches that used by the M5 in the show when it was not being taxed. The same segment combinations are used with the same timings to match the show.
o The second mode runs all the segments in the same pattern and timing as was done in the television show. As in the show this combines the six second “slow” loop with a ¾ second second “fast” loop with the remaining segments done in the same order as the show.
o The third mode is the same as the second mode with the exception of two segments always being lit. This reflects what was probably a problem with the prop on the TV show that was corrected for later shots. Shots where the camera was stationery show this mode while shots were the camera was moving shows the second mode.
o There is a fourth mode that will swap between the first two modes roughly every 25 seconds
The M5 panel  was used again two episodes later in “Assignment Earth” as part of the Beta 5 computer (and again in the third season as part of the Atavachron). The panel was turned upside down, the speed of the lighted segment cycles increased (the non-taxed mode went from a six second loop to a 4 second loop), the segments were paired differently, the order they were displayed in changed was changed and only 45 lighted segments were used instead of 46.
This unit also comes with four beta 5/Atavachron modes: (it needs to be turned upside down to match it exactly:
o The first  mode is the slower mode when the computer is not being taxed. This is similar to the M5 slower mode but runs faster and loops every four seconds instead of every six seconds to match the show.
o The second mode is the full segment mode and matches the faster “thinking/activity” mode of the beta 5.
o The third mode is the same as the second mode with the exception of showing one of the segments a bit differently. In the original show the panel shows some damage to one of the orange segments. On one edge the light is white instead of orange. This mode adds white to the same edge of that segment to match the show.
o There is a fourth mode that will swap between the first two modes every 25 seconds
There are also three additional modes which do not match the show. They use the segments with different parameters by using more colors, longer fades, color patterns, more segments lit at once, etc to make a more pleasing display.
The unit requires a USB-C plugin (for example the ones used for the raspberry pi 4 or for some android phones and Laptops) and is intended to be powered when running - it also has an internal rechargeable battery for temporary use without being plugged in.
This is a slightly different version from the original batch. The changes for this new batch:
o The micro-USB port has been replaced with a USB-C port
o The side is no longer stacked plexiglass (except for the rounded corners)
o The segments are no longer visible through the plexiglass when not lit (the internal lights masks are ordered differently)
o The touch sensor has been moved to the side just under the USB-C port instead of on top of the display
